What age can I learn to
dive? How deep can I go once I have done the training?
If you are aged 10-14 years, Go Deep Scuba can discuss training you to be a Junior Open Water Diver, with your parents or guardian. Some kids are really grown up for their age, but then some aren't, so we need to make sure you are ready for anything that can happen when you are diving. The Junior Open Water diver qualification is the same course as what older kids and adults complete. You are a little bit limited though once you qualify with who you can dive with and to what depth. Junior Open Water divers must dive with a certified Adult diver (that is someone over 18 years of age) and can only dive to 12 metres. Once you turn 15 you automatically upgrade to a full Open Water Diver, and the only additional expense is to purchase a new certification card.
Once you complete your
Junior Open Water Diver course, what else can I do?
You have a lot of opportunities to gain more experience and some more cards too. As a Junior Open Water diver you can go on and complete specialty dives, become a Junior Advanced Open Water Diver, Junior Stress & Rescue Diver and once you about 50 dives, under your belt, you can strive for the Junior Master Scuba Diver rating. There are some restrictions for the specialty training you can undertake, but these are put in place to keep you safe and give you a chance to become a better diver, before you tackle them. Go Deep Scuba has a dedicated team of dive instructors who can offer you the patience and skills to help you get the qualification you are wanting to achieve. We have a wonderful record with the local schools that we have been teaching at over the last six years. Check out some of the testimonials, below.
CHECK OUT THESE SCHOOL TESTIMONIALS: 'Working with Sharon over the last 3 years, completing various scuba courses, has been a great experience for all of the students and staff at Wanganui Collegiate School. Her professionalism, support crew and diligence has been outstanding, as has her willingness to go the extra mile to help kids achieve their goals. I would thoroughly recommend Sharon and her colleagues at ‘Go Deep Scuba;’ as the organisation is thorough, professional and she works hard to develop excellent working relationships with students, parents and teachers. Thank you for the outstanding job you have done for us and the manner in which you have role-modelled and the positive relationships and friendships you have helped develop.’ Mark Calverley, Wanganui Collegiate.
"Our senior students have worked with the team at Go Deep Scuba for the past two years, gaining their open water diving certificate as well as NCEA credits for their physical education courses. Our instructor Sharon did a fantastic job of putting nervous students at ease and was an expert at making each lesson fun and as informative as possible. She consistently went out of her way to make sure that our students mastered all of the skills necessary before undertaking their first open water dive. She is a great communicator, teacher and motivator. It is clear to see she is passionate about all aspects of diving, including teaching others.
It was fantastic to see the change in many of the students from giggling and nervous their first time in the pool, to confident and careful divers; respectful of the underwater environment.
Our thanks extend to Sharon, Tracey and Anthony, for helping to make our first diving experiences positive, inspirational and above all, safe! I know our students have gained some important life skills as well as accomplished some personal goals that will remain with them forever." Alicia Johnson, Wanganui Girls’ College.

There will be small groups of two only in the class and the class will run for 45 minutes. They will wear specially designed BCDs and small tanks and have a kid sized mouthpiece too. The picture shows eight year old Breyton modeling the BCD, tank, mask & snorkel. Cost of this is $25 per child and registrations are essential.

The Go Deep Scuba PADI Seal Team
The September Go Deep Scuba PADI Seal Team and AWARE Kids helped clean up Castlecliff Beach. It was a lovely day and the kids were amazed at how much rubbish was found just lying around on the beach.
As part of their AWARE kids programme they made a large paper mache anchor which now stands in its pride and place at the shop.
April 2005 Seal Team and AWARE Kids: ' This team has adopted 'Sherman' the 7-gill Shark at Napier's National Aquarium.
The focus for this group was sharks and amongst other activities they made a Great White Shark out of paper mache, his name is "Geoffrey".
Geoffrey lives at Go Deep Scuba and the team did a great job on him.
